For one of our clients we are looking for a Senior SCADA Software Engineer (3+ years of experience)

Location: Brussels South, 3d/week min. in the office, 2d/week remote

Context:
Be part of a dynamic development team responsible for business-critical SCADA system operating 24/7 to keep our power perimeter balanced in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
We develop tools to support the real-time control of power plants, to integrate flexibility assets, and to comply with European grid codes to support the energy transition. Out tools are mainly used to:
monitor the production assets, available capacities from power plants
provide information between TSO’s and real-time SCADA system (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition);
calculate the real-time setpoint to send to the powerplants
Your specific role:
The application used to provide the services to our customers is Hitachi ABB MicroSCADA SYS600 version X (MicroSCADA X SYS600 | Hitachi Energy).
The backend development language within MicroSCADA is proprietary: SCIL (Supervisory Control Implementation Language) & the frontend is web based.
The application is web-based. The frontend development language within MicroSCADA is proprietary based HTML, CSS and Javascript.
As a developer, your role is to:
Develop and maintain our SCADA X (Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA X) that keeps power perimeter in balance.
Work on both front-end and back-end development using SCIL, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript.
Apply architectural design principles to build scalable, and robust solutions.
Apply software craftsmanship principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS, YAGNI) to build clean, maintainable, and resilient code.
Collaborate in an Agile/SAFe® environment with analysts, dispatchers, and technical teams.
Contribute to on-call support (after onboarding) to ensure system availability and grid stability. (Our tools are business critical and are used 24/7)
Requested profile:
You have a master's degree with a specialization in IT and/or electrical engineering (e.g., ingénieur civil, burgelijk ingenieur, industrial engineer, in software, electronics or electromecanics),
You have at least 3 years of relevant experience,
You have an industrial mindset combined with a high level of software engineering (good architecture, design patterns,…). Our systems have to be very stable. Any problem due to unavailability, bug or other, can have a big impact,
You should understand the basics of the electricity production and the grid transport,
You pay attention to designing resilient solutions that support 24/7 operations, and you remain available to provide support in case of critical issues (= interruption in your daily work),
You are solution-driven and feel responsible for your tasks. When a problem occurs, you have to find a quick fix in no-time. Sustainable fix will be required in case quick fix is solely a workaround to allow operations to be pursued,
You are motivated to work in a team that is responsible for real-time activities.
You are team player in complex project organizations and interact easily with your peers, analysts, architects, business representatives, and other teams’ representatives,
You are able to self-learn and take initiatives to improve our environment, our practices,
And on the technical level
You have some knowledge of basic programming languages (Training “SYS 600 SCIL Programming Basics” must be followed early at start of the mission: to be coordinated by the consultancy company with Hitachi Energy
§ SCIL developments for the backend
§ Web development for the front-end (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript / Typescript)
§ Version control and CI/CD implementation (supported by Github)
The team will support you in order to improve your programming on our specific environment during the first months.
Be aware of cybersecurity principles in industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT) environments. Our systems have to comply with NIS 2 regulation.
