Service Manager – Microservices Transformation
For a strategic IT transformation project, we are looking for a Service Manager who will manage activities and employees to achieve the program objectives, in line with the organizational strategy. The focus is on the accelerated design, integration and delivery of new microservices within a modern and quality-driven application environment.
Project Context:
The consultant will participate in a large-scale rewrite project involving the transformation of an existing monolithic application, including externally developed modules, into a structured microservices architecture. The functional scope is comparable to systems for payment processing, account management, reimbursements, and accounting processes.
Your role:
You will work directly with the program manager and assume responsibility for a portion of the delivery team within one of the priority domains (accounting management, transaction and order management, rules management, or interface management). You will work closely with the manager of the existing solution to ensure a high-quality and controlled transition to the new architecture.
You will manage the team in terms of planning, quality, and target achievement, and monitor the consistency between functional requirements, technical choices, and deliveries. You will actively report via dashboards and KPIs, document decisions and progress, and communicate transparently with all stakeholders. You will also give presentations during steering committee meetings and lead workshops with product owners and stakeholders. A key focus is on developing and delivering new, high-quality modules.
Requirements – generic:
You have a strong service-oriented approach and are highly results-driven. You collaborate effectively within and across teams, support colleagues, and act as an advisor, proactively formulating improvement proposals. You demonstrate ownership, reliability, and problem-solving skills, and are able to analyze and integrate information into clear decisions.
You communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and have experience with reporting, planning, and documentation. You actively invest in your own development and take initiative where necessary. You have a good command of English and at least one of the official languages of the country.
Requirements – Technical:
You have knowledge of relational databases, at least DB2, and understand the principles of data quality. As a user, you have a good understanding of the architecture and technical environment of information systems and database management systems.
In addition, you have demonstrable knowledge of microservices architectures and of both synchronous and asynchronous communication (such as REST and messaging/queues). You have advanced knowledge of development and management methodologies, including Agile Scrum (ceremonies, Definition of Ready, and Definition of Done), and are familiar with governance and management frameworks such as PRINCE2/PMFin and ITIL (incident, problem, release, dependency, and change management).
